Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Engine stops, briggs and stratton, fuel tank cap

Question
Marc:  I have a 12.5 Weed eater riding lawn tractor that has a briggs and stratton engine.  Recently, it started fine then after a while like about 10 minutes of cutting grass it began to stall, like gas starvation.  I cleaned and changed the fuel filter. cleaned the tank, cleaned the fuel lines, drained the carb bowl, cleaned the air filter, the spark plug.

It started up fine and began cutting grass again then after about 10-12 minutes it started stalling again just like before and one time even stopping like it was out of gas. This has gone on four or five times and I am stuck on what to do next.  I am not a mechanical genius but i do know more than most.  it seems like it has to be a gas problem. Could it be old gas, the need for a brand new fuel filter, or what.?  Totally confused in Louisiana.
regards

Answer
It is possible that you are experiencing an ignition problem that is caused by heat. Before you investigate the ignition, try this. Loosen off the fuel tank cap a little so it can vent. If the engine continues to run, you have an issue with the fuel tank vent (usually in the cap). If this doesn't help, you will need to run the engine until it dies, then quickly check for spark. If you have no spark when it's hot, the ignition module (coil) will need to be replaced. If these suggestions aren't the problem, please get back to me with what you find.  Definitely get rid of all old fuel.  Hope this helps.
