Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Throttle Problem, sears weedwacker, internal passages

Question
I own a Sears Weedwacker that has a 26.2 cc 2-stroke engine. It has been in my garage for years just sitting. I've got the thing running (new spark plug, cleaned the carb, and cleaned all the gunk from everything). However, it tends to want to quit sometimes, for instance, I put the choke on full for start up. No problems. Yet in moments, it'll bog down, so I move it to low. Now it tries to quit and I have to move the choke up and down to keep it alive. Sometimes though, it will idle fine, yet when you gice it gas, it will try to cut off. Any help would be appreciated. THANKS

Answer
If you have to use the choke to keep it running, it's likely the carb is still dirty inside.  This could be as simple as mixture screw adjustments or the carb may need more attention.  The idle mixture screws should be started at 1 1/2 turns out from lightly seated.  This may not make it run perfect but it shouldn't die out.  If it still does, you will need to thoroughly clean the carb, including pushing a piece of tag wire through all of the internal passages and following up with carb cleaner.  Install new diaphrams and a fuel filter.  Hope this helps.
