Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Coil problem?, stroke engine, high tension

Question
Hello marc,
I have an old golf cart with a 2 stroke engine thats not getting spark to the plug. I checked the coil and it has spark at the hot terminal and when I crank the engine it has spark to the other terminal going to the points. Why no spark to the plug?
Thanks, Jerry

Answer
At the end of the plug wire, a spark should be able to jump a 1/8" gap to ground.  If it doesn't but you have spark right at the tower on the coil, the high tension lead from the coil (and perhaps the spark plug boot) need to be replaced.  Hope this helps.
