Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Toro Snowblower, toro snowblower, drive belts

Question
I have an older Toro snowblower that starts fine but when I
go to clear the driveway I get about a foot, the snow is
thrown about a foot and then the chute clogs up. Any idea
on what might be going on here and how I can go about
fixing it? I do not have the model number but it is a larger
snowblower with a blade engagement "throttle" and three
speed shifter. I would imagine it is minimum 5HP. Thanks

Answer
Hi Chris,

We will need to isolate the problem.  Either it is the engine or the drive assembly.  Does the engine seem to bog down and lack power?  Try adjusting the large high speed screw on the carb.  It is usually located on the bottom of the carb float bowl.  The initial setting is 1 & 1/2 turns out.  Check the drive belts to make sure that they are not worn and slipping.  Are both front augers turning when blowing snow?  A shear pin might have broken.  When the engine is off the augers should not turn by hand.

Let me know what you find.
