Snowmobile Repair: Bogey wheel Replacement, ski doo mxz, wd 40

Question
I have 97 Ski-doo MXZ, where I need to replace a bad bogey wheel.  The question is, by unbolting the wheel, will it slide off or do you have to do something with the track to get the wheel off?  I un-bolted the wheel, but it won't come off and before I try to pound it off, I want to make sure that I don't have to do something with the track

Answer
Hello Todd,

Well, there are times when I suspect someone put Krazy Glue on the wheels of a sled I'm working on, but the answer is no, there is nothing else retaining your wheel. What I would recommend doing, is loosening the track by turning the long track tension bolts on each side of the sled out. There is also a nut on each of the tension bolts that will need to be loosened first. Once there is slack in the track, you can proceed with much more ease. Still, the wheel will be stubborn. I have always had the best luck with Kano's Kroil http://www.kanolabs.com/ , which is a powerful penetrating oil that will not hurt the bearings in the idler wheels. If it is not available, try WD-40 or something similar. Other than that, you will need to do alot of pounding. Also, a trick that works well, is to put a pair of gloves on and grab each side of the wheel in the 9 and 3 O clock positions. Now, pull on one side. Then take the other hand and give a pull. This generally works very well. I hope these suggestions help you. Let me know if you have any other questions. Good luck with the sled! --Arcticatman
