Snowmobile Repair: clutch 377 safari, crank shaft, outer sheath

Question
OK, I'm about as new as you can be to sledding, got a 91 377 safari, primary clutch was rattling, checked the clutch bolt and it was extremely loose, outer sheath comes off with out taking the whole thing off.

I noticed the rollers were off  how do I put this back together? the 3 rollers are supposed to roll on the ( not sure name of it) instead they rest on the spring, I tried having keeping them in place while reattaching and tightening the outer sheath but it did not work, and how do I stopit from happening again

Please help, thanks

Answer
Hello Gerry,

Sounds like the clutch may be a bit worn out, you may want to have your dealer take a look at it, or possibly find a used TRA clutch on Ebay. If the clutch seems ok, here are a few ideas. Clutches are always hard to install or re-assemble. You may want to have a helper, this always makes things easier. Also, make sure the spring is seating properly. Another thing that may help, is to have a helper use a screw driver to hold the rollers up on the arms to keep them from coming off, as you install the outer sheave. Also, try some thread locker on the bolt to keep it from coming out again. It maybe possible that the crank shaft is bent, or there is imbalanced components inside of the clutch causing the bolt to come loose. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions. Good luck with the sled! --Arcticatman
