Snowmobile Repair: timing, dial indicator, timing light

Question
I have 1975 440 kawasaki eng. was wondering if you know how many thousandths before tdc i can mark flywheel for timing eng using a dial indicator. I want to hook up my timing light but dont know where marks should be. I changed over from points to cdi runs good but have a feeling timing is off. i dont feel i am getting the performance i should get and dont want to dial carb until timing is exact. i also was wondering which cylinder is considered #1 and which is #2. thanks

Answer
Hello Troy,

I am very sorry for the delay in my response, I try to get questions answered the same day I recieve them, if possible. As far as the timing is concerned, I will need your engine's model number, as the engines are different, from year to year. Sorry I couldn't help you right off. Hope to hear from you soon. --Arcticatman
