Snowmobile Repair: torque converter adjustment, polaris rxl, polaris sleds

Question
I have a 1991 polaris rxl sks I have two problems first is I have no bottom end tourqe someone adjusted the converter to get more top end and I use the machine mostly for ungromed trails and off trail. I was with him when he did it but can't remember how to preload the spring more tension more bottom end?  I think there's four holes to choose. the other problem is the fuel injection used to pump up when the key was turned on makeing a clicking noise now it doesen't wondering  if it's a relay or?

Answer
Hello Richard,

You are right, there are 4 holes in the cam, on the good old Polaris sleds of that year. You will need to remove the belt first, and then the cap screw. You will also need to apply slight down pressure to the torque cam, and then remove the snap ring and washer. With the holes on the right side, the lowest hole is considered hole 1 and the highest is considered hole 4. If you use a higher hole, you will increase the up shift delay during acceleration. Pre-load the spring one ramp ( 1/3 turn), by turning the sliding sheave counterclockwise after spring is connected. Now, as far as the fuel injection. If it's battery-less, it should be tested. I believe you probably do have a battery, and may times when the battery gets low, things don't click. You may want to put it on the charger and try to start it. Another thing you can do is take a screwdriver, and use the handle of it to firmly tap on any relays on the sled, while a helper tries to start it. One possibility, is that you need to clean, or replace the pump. Hope this helps you. Let me know if you need any help at all. Good luck with the sled! --Arcticatman
