Snowmobile Repair: oil mix, oil manufacturers, cycle oil

Question
I have a ski doo everest 500 that was my grandfathers. How do i mix the oil and what kind of gas and oil.  And can i get a new or used exaust for it.  Thanks Kyle

Answer
Hello Kyle,

That's a neet sled to be the owner of. As far as the fuel oil ratio, that will depend on the type of oil you use. If you use regular Two Cycle oil rated TC-W3, mix one quart of oil with 5 gallons of gas ( 20:1 ratio approximately. If you decide to use Full Synthetic oil ( I recommend Amsoil, available through snowmobile dealers) Then, you can mix it 15 ounces of oil to every gallon of gas. I would not recommend going to the 50:1 ratio advertised on some oil manufacturers bottles, that can over heat older Ski-Doo's. As far as mixing it, your best bet is to buy oil in quarts, with the level displayed on the side of the bottle. Fill your gas can, then pour the correct amount of oil into the can. Shake the can vigorously for 2-3 minutes. For an exhaust, you will probably have a hard time finding a new exhaust, but there are used ones out there that are pretty decent. With that said, Al's Snowmobile has decent ones in the 75 dollar range; http://alssnowmo.com/PRODUCTPARTS.ASPX?pn_deptid=423 . I'm not sure what year your sled is, but here is the full range of their Ski-Doo Exhaust. If you are having any trouble locating the year for your machine, let me know, and we'll figure that out. If you ever need any help, or specs on the sled, let me know! Good luck with the Doo! --Arcticatman
