Snowmobile Repair: water pump, oil consumption, o rings

Question
yo man.
i asked earlier about my 2001 mxzx 440 with possible crank seal problems.  you mentioned that my water pump might have a portion (a smaller pump that allows oil to lube the crank bearings) might be busted.  i just wondered if it was a HUGE job to repair such a thing, i obviously have no $$, so i was just wondering what to expect. thanks man, i appreciate it, and arctic cat are good sleds....just never ride a "FUSION"! haha

Answer
Hello Drew,

NO, I will never ride the fusion, actually I am begining to like Ski-Doo a bit over Cat... I think I have figured out your sleds problem. There are two valves on your sled called check valves, and they shut the oil flow off on your sled when you turn it off. Well, when they get old, they stick and let the oil drain occasionally into the rngine, as you had metioned, and also will let to much oil through, causing too much oil consumption. They sell for about 20 bucks or so, availible through Ronnies: http://216.37.204.202/Skidoo_OEM/Skidoo.asp?Type=13&A=398&B=4    .   Just be sure to use Loctite on them when installing them. I think you should be good to go with them, as pump failure is pretty much ruled out, only because the pump is combined with your water pump, and it sunds like your water pump is still going. If the check valves don't do the trick, try buying all new o'rings and seals from your dealer, for the oil pump, as it might just have a internal leak. All of the seals and o-rings should run at about 35.00 dollars. Good luck with the sled, hope you get it going good before the snow comes! --Arcticatman
