Snowmobile Repair: will not start, amp fuse, spark plug wire

Question
I have a 2003 ZL600 EFI ESR that will not start the starter does engage the motor will turn. I took off the battery for the summer. Then when I connected it to try & start the sled it blew the 7.5 amp fuse. I replaced the fuse & the sled will not start. I have tried new spark plugs, & even tried the pull start. Nothing. Do you have any suggestions?  Is there any other fuses? how would I get a coil if this is the problem? Thanks for any help.

Answer
Hello Robert,

That's a pretty new sled to be having a no-start problem, is it still under the factory Arctic Cat waranty? If it is I would take it to your dealer for repair. I wouldn't worry about it blowing that fuse, that's fairly normal, especially if the sled has been cranked over continually for a long period of time with out starting. I would be surprised if it was your coil, but you can go to www.denniskirk.com , for a new one if you find that is the problem. I would do two things, check for spark, and see if the plugs are wet after cranking the engine over. Here are a few things I would recomend checking:
*Fuel tank low
*Misuse of choke/primer
*Pressure in fuel tank
*Fuel Filter Screens Clogged
*Fuel Vent Line Clogged
*Oil Tank Low
Pull a spark plug wire off and plug it on a new spark plug. Hold the threaded area of the spark plug to the engine (like on a head bolt or other good ground) and turn it over. See if you get a blue-white colored spark. The spark should not be yellow or orange colored. If it is, or there is no spark at all, make sure the wire is on the plug good, and that you have a good ground. You may also want to use a plug you know is good. If you still do not see a blue-white spark, your problem is in the ignition.

If you get a blue-white spark, then start checking for fuel.

First pull the fuel line off at the filter and be sure fuel can flow freely from the tank to the filter. If so, move to the carb. pull the line off there and see if it flows freely* at the carb.
*Note: The fuel will not flow AS freely after the filter as it does before the filter, but it should still flow. If there is a substantial difference, replace the filter and check again. Also, make sure that all wires in the harness are plugged in securely especially at the ECU. Let me know what you find. I hope I can help you in get it running! Good luck on the Cat! Arcticatman
