I understand what you are saying the only problem is that there are no screws....they lok more like rivets...I'm wondering what is the proper way to take them off!!!

first, thank you for you time...I own a 1989 Ski Doo Safari Escapade and I have to change the boots....I don't know if it's the exact term but they are those soft plastic wrap that protect the shock absorber, located over the skis...I don't know if you could tell me how to properly remove them and then replace it...thank you!!!

Hello Pascal, I believe you are refering to what Ski Doo calls the " Envelope", and yes is called the boot in general, that encases the ski-leg. You should be able to remove the ski, held on by one bolt. Then if I'm thinking of the same thing you're talking about, you can just remove the six screws that hold the boot on, and the spring-like band. Then, it should come off. Installing a new one is just the reverse of removal. Hello Pascal, Sorry I wasn't able to help answer your question. You are absolutley right, it is held on by rivets, sorry I forgot about that. Here is a good four step method for getting them off.   

STEP 1: I use an automatic center punch to dimple the center of the rivet. This gives the drill bit a place to start, and helps to keep it from walking.


STEP 2: The offending rivet is drilled completely through. I use a 1/16" bit for 3/32" rivets, and a #40 bit for 1/8" rivets. I always use a much smaller bit to avoid drilling into the edge of the metal or plastic and making an oblong hole. Drilling through the entire rivet makes it much easier to remove.


STEP 3: The head of the rivet is popped off using a dull bit the same size as the hole you drilled. Sometimes difficult heads break into a few pieces and make themselves difficult. Most of the time they will just "snap" off. If part or all of the head of the rivet will not come out, proceed to step 4.


STEP 4: Use a pair of dull wire cutters to snap off the "shop" head of the rivet. Sometimes this is not necessary, as the shop head will fall off when you snap off the factory head. The rivet head is first slightly crushed, then popped out with the cutters using a lever action.
