Steering Column Repair: ignition, steering column, ford steering column, steering column repair

Question
I put my key in the ignition of my 1997 f150 and the whole thing just kept spinning, then it just stayed loose and the dash lights stayed on so we had to disconnect the battery. My husband bought a new ignition and put it in but it just did the same. Is there a problem in the column itself? It seems as though a stopper has broke in the shaft. Any suggestions? I'm not mechanically knowledgeable, I hope I described the problem okay! Thanks, Cheryl

Answer
Hi Cheryl:
Sorry about your truck.  It sounds like you have a broken rack actuator gear.  The pin comes out inside the column on the end you cannot see.  We have recently uploaded pages and a description of how to rebuild the upper portion of a Ford steering column on our company website (for a small fee).  They are broken down into step by step detailed instructions on our website. Although the example is for a Ford Mustang, the column is identical to yours http://www.steeringcolumnservices.com/steering-column-repair-how-to-instructions

I hope these instructions can help you.  Also, if you need parts to repair this column simply locate the part and you can purchase it directly through the shopping cart.  My guess is you will need the part called rack05....here.

We stock just about everything you would need to repair your car properly.
