Steering Column Repair: right signal does not work, left turn signal, auto parts store

Question
The steering column lever to turn right is not engaging the lights (front and rear) in my '97 Park Ave Ultra (I was driving in a snow storm recently and the left turn signal would not quit blinking when I returned the lever to a neutral position and when I engaged the hazard light switch, that caused both to eventually quit). The next day I found the left turn signal working ... but the right would not work at all. I have had the fuses and bulbs checked and they all appear good. Because I was told the problem was likely the switch in the column I called to price it and about fell over when I was told it would cost about $500! I want to create a toggle switch for intermittent bulb and wire them into the wells for the original bulbs and have run off the battery. Any suggestions on whether this should be a temporary fix?
Seems like a solution worth doing vs. spending the large amount of money on the system from the auto parts store._If you think this can be done, would you give me the basics to assembling the makeshift system?

Thanks for any help you can offer! It is much appreciated!

Gary

Hi Gary:

Sorry about your switch.  It is an expensive one, however rewiring the car to accommodate this is truly not the answer.
Our company has access to wholesale purchasing and can help you some if you;d like.
We offer that switch (new) for $387.50 plus shipping & NY tax
Contact me through our company website as we also have step-by-step procedures for replacing this part posted for free.
