Steering Column Repair: loose steering column, monte carlo ss, 1987 monte carlo ss

Hi Doug.I have a 1987 monte carlo SS with tilt.It is loose...I pulled the wheel and dirrectional switch.I thought the 3 torx screws would be the problem.But I was wrong.The lower column feels tighter in engine compartment.Can you help me??? Please also send me a service manual picture break down and parts breakdown.And can the repair be done in the car,or is it best to remove the column to repar it.Thanks alot for your help,John
