Steering Column Repair: Steering Column, phillips head screws, torx screws

Question
Douglas,  my blinker switch is broken.  How difficult would it be to replace it on my F150 1992?  Also,  my cruise control no longer works.  It is located on the steering wheel.  I don't know a lot about intricate car repairs.  Should  I let the pros handle this?  Thank you.

Hi Mark:
You have asked about repairing one of the simplest items on the steering column of this vehicle.  You should have no problem doing this yourself.
Attached is a picture of the switch assembly.  Here are the step by step instructions:
1) Remove the 3-5 screws holding the upper and lower covers together (phillips head screws)
2) Remove the covers
3) remove the 2 --20 torx screws holding the switch to the column
4) unplug the switch
5 install the new one!

How easy was that?

Let me know if you have any problems.
As far as the cruise control goes, that could be a number of things and the proper diagnosis is critical.  Let the shop handle that one

Good luck
Doug
