Steering Column Repair: Key lock cylinder stuck in the off position, lock cylinder, chevrolet suburban

Question
I have a 1995 chevrolet suburban with the lock cylinder stuck in the
off position. With the key in the ignition the cylinder will not turn.
The steering column is locked with the wheels turned to the right
but does not seem to be in a bind. Is it possible to remove the key
lock cylinder in this position or any tricks on releasing the column?

Answer
Hello Jerry,
Try this trick first. Buy a small tube of lock lubricant (WD40 will work if necessary). Lubricate the lock and then giggle it until it starts to turn. Once you get it unstuck continue with a little more lubrication and work it in good. That may work, but if not you'll have to remove the steering wheel to replace the lock assembly.

Hope that helps.
Have a great day!
