Steering Column Repair: Loose Steering Column on 1989 Buick Century, buick century, steering column

Question
The steering column on my 89 buick century moves both up and down and left and right. While turning the car right the steering column also has a tendancy to disengae the ignition switch if I don't push the wheel up. The steering column itself is a tilt steering column. From what I've read those types of steering columns are a pain in a neck to work with. My question is rather or not I should pay to get the column fixed or if I should pay to get the column replaced? Also, would it be possible to replace the steering column myself?

Answer
Hello Jeremy,
Much depends on your personal choice. If you want to keep the steering column original, then have the column rebuilt. If not, then you could have the column replaced with a REBUILT unit. I do not recommend buying a used column out of a junkyard unless you can first test the unit to make sure it isn't loose as well.
Hope that helps.
Have a great day!
