Steering Column Repair: Blazer wiper switch, wiper switch, bounceback

Question
Hi- I'm in New Zealand, with a right hand drive full size 1988 Blazer. (Conversion done here). I love the old beast. Here's the problem- wipers work great- too great! They won't quit! There seems to be a looseness in the switch. There is no spring bounceback from the
momentary position, and in all positions of the switch, the wipers only work at one speed. It is such a pain in theass to get to the switch, I am looking for advice before I pull the whole thing apart. Is the switch liable to just need a something tightened? Or is it replacement time? I will be back visiting the US next month, and if it is probably replace the switch time, I'll pick one up while I'm there. Then comes the teardown to get at it... Any advice emailed to me would be great, including if its worth getting a junkyard switch (funds are short).   Thanks for any help!

Answer
Hello Jon,
I would check the wiper control on the wiper motor before I'd suspect the switch. Also, since this is a modification I have no idea how well the wires were transferred over to the right side. You may have a power wire shorting to the wiper motor causing it to have continuous power. You will need to start tracing wires to see if the power is going in, and then back out from the wiper switch.
I hope that helps.
Have a great day!
