Steering Column Repair: 79 GM Steering column, gm steering column, 79 trans am

Question
I installed a Tilt steering column in a 79 Trans am. When I put on the two nuts
that hold the column up under the dash I noticed that the bolts were all the way
to the steering wheel side of the slots and they should be on the other end of
the slots. Can I fix this problem? The steering is still smooth with no grinding.

Hi Pat,
You're probably going to be OK. I don't know if you made any changes to cause a different alignment. It could also have been the weight of the column bringing it down to the steering wheel side of the slots. You may be able to loosen the nuts and pull upward on the column to adjust it to the other end of the slot. If it feels smooth, that's the important part.
