Steering Column Repair: 83 monte carlo steering column removal, turn signal switch, allen screw

how do you get the turn signal lever to come out?mine doesnt have a screw holding it in...it looks almost like a peened fastener...is it an allen screw?...if it is its hard to see...also...do i need to remove the whole column to rebuild the tilt mechanism?so far ive only gotten down to the turn signal switch,but havnt pulled the wires up yet because of the lever issue...thanks a lot for your time...Dan

Its simple. Firmly grab lever and pull outward. Should come right out. You do not say why you are working on the tilt mechnism. My guess is that it is a loose column. If you look at April and May answers you will see in detail what is needed to tighten. The job is extensive for a beginner, but I was as detailed as possible.
