Steering Column Repair: Signals Broken, jeep cherokee, new signal

Question
Hello - I am not sure if you are the right person to ask but I took my Jeep Cherokee (99) to the dealer (thought it was under warranty)because my signals have stopped working. They told me that they had to take the steering column apart and that I would require a new signal changer.  They wanted to order the part for me and charge me 265 for the repair - it wasn't covered under my warranty.  I did not order the part because it sounded so expensive.  Can you give me some advice - thanks for your time.
