Subaru Repair: 97 outback awd wagon, cylinder misfire, outback

Question
My daughter has a 97 outback awd wagon and the check engine light just started flashing for the past day or so. The vehicle seems to be operating and running fine. What do you think?

Answer
Hey Craig,

A flashing check engine light, indicates a cylinder misfire and you should probably have it checked out before the possibility of damage to the catalyst occurs.  It could be as simple as a faulty plug wire or as serious as a sticky valve.  A lot of times the misfire will occur at a higher rate of engine rpm and will go unnoticed by the driver.

Hope this helps
