Subaru Repair: 97 Subaru Impreza, wheel drive car, viscous coupler

Question
I have 2 problems... My key will not come out of the ignition switch.  A local mechanic (not a subaru dealer) put in a new switch but it didn't solve the problem. He showed me how to get the key out by taking my finger and depressing a small lever inside the steering column.  How big is this problem? 2). When I accelerate into traffic and have to make a sharp left or right hand turn the car seems to shutter and shake when I first take off.  It makes no noise and doesn't shake any other time.  When this first started happening I had all new tires (same size, type and pressure)and new brake pads but it didn't help.
The U-Joints don't make any noise and when I turn the steering wheel while sitting still it meams to work fine.

Answer
The key problem could be located in the shifter, shifter cable or solenoids located in the shifter. If the car doesn't think your in Park, it release the key.

The shuttering,  go into a empty parking lot and come to a complete stop. Turn the wheel sharp in either direction and accelerate, then do it in the other direction. If the car feels like it doesn't want to turn (binding), (shuttering) then it's more likely the MPT clutches ( Multi Plate Transfer) located in the tailshaft of the transmission. The best way to test this if the car is an automatic, under the hood near the wiper motor you'll find a little black box that says FWD on it. Open the box and insert a 20amp fuse. This will now turn your Subaru into  front wheel drive car. Then redo the same test as i mentioned before. If the shutter is gone, then it definetly the MPT clutches. If you have a manual transmission, you can't put it into FWD, and it doesn't have MPT clutches, but it does have a viscous coupler located in the same area and does the same thing as the MPT clutches, and that is transfers the power to the rear wheels. I hope this helps.
