Subaru Repair: Justy Wont Start, voltage drop test, power relays

Question
I have a 94 Justy FWD. Every now and then it won't start, sounds like it just turns over without fireing.  I have noticed that if the Check Engine light does not come on when you first turn it on that when it won't start. The oil and alternator light come one but not the Check Engine.  I can shut it off and turn it on a couple times and when the light comes on then it will start.  Also sometimes when I am driving it will shut down without warning.  Most of the time I can put it in a lower gear and pop the clutch and it will re-start.  It sounds like a short but I don't know where to start looking.  Any suggestions?

Answer
Sounds to me like there is either a power or ground distribution problem to the ECM (Engine Control Module).Or that the ECM is buggy or even one of the main power relays is sticking. How I would test it is to do a visual inspection of the wiring harness going into the ECM.Followed by a voltage and voltage drop test of the power and ground circuits. But not knowing your individual skills and how well your tool box is supplied its hard to know if that's in your realm of possibilities. An easy thing you can try is locating the relays and when it acts up lightly tap them and see what happens. The relays are in two spots one is underhood in the underhood fuse/relay box and the other is under the drivers side dash way up high and can be difficult to get to but not impossible.I hope that helps
