Subaru Repair: 98 Outback Oil System, outback wagon, subaru owners

Question
Is it common for the cams to get "starved" for oil, seize in their bearings and snap in half? Our '98 Outback wagon [78K mi] has done this while travelling 65 mph on RTE #3 near Bremerton recently. New cylinder heads are due Thursday & the mechanic hopes to have the car back to us next week. BIG disappointment after many satified years with this car.

I have checked around. And it is not unheard of, but very, very unusual. Most guys I talked to have heard of it, but never seen it. I would be disappointed also. Doesn't help you, but most Subaru owners never deal with what you are going through. Good luck. Z
