Subaru Repair: Subaru Outback 06, trip odometer, subaru outback

Question
Outback w/22,00 miles: while driving home the temperature guage suddenly spiked to Hot and a code appeared on the "A" trip odometer--Er HC.
I immediately pulled over and turned the car off. Once restarted, the temp. guage reset to normal and the trip odometer was reading the appropriate mileage.

The car drove home normally, but seemed a little sluggish.

Please advise!!!

Thank-you in advance.

Answer
A little bit of info on E codes is in your owners manual, page 3-12 maybe. Says that this is a communication code and you need to return to your dealer. Probably the best idea, since your car is probably still under warranty. I did look up your code in the service manual, and the book says that you have a "high speed CAN communication failure." Clear as mud, right?! Called Subaru tech assist and they said the error code is a communication code - one module did not see another module. You need to have a Subaru dealer check all onboard systems to see if you have a problem, or if your computer just hiccuped. Good luck.
