Towing Issues: impound fees, mariposa california, gov pubs

Question
I sold a motorcycle and did not fill out the release of liability.
The motorcycle was never transferred out of my name and was impounded. I was recently notified that it was impounded sold and I still owe $8400. in impound fees. They said they notified me but the address they sent it to was a mix between my home address and my work address and I never received it. Is there a limit they can charge you, especially after they have sold your vehicle? I am in Mariposa California

Answer
Well California has a ton of laws regarding towing, and the lien process.

You can do a bunch of research with the link I will attach and you can also find answers that I would only be guessing at. Look at the lien process stuff and notifications sections.

But it does not sound good and I think that things are a bit out of whack here. The amount is way over what should be due for towing a motorcycle and storage unless they kept it for like 2 years or so. Then they did not follow the laws.

Hope the link helps.
