Towing Issues: Ownership of towed car, storage fees, tow company

Question
Hello,
A couple of months ago, I was in a very bad accident, and had my car was towed to Tolland Automotives in Connecticut. Because my car insurance did not cover the accident, I was able to work out a deal with the Tolland Automotives to give them the title of my car, in exchange they would waive the storage fees and allow me make payments on just the towing fees. I had all other documents except my title at the time, which they said was fine, just to get another copy at the DMV (I had moved from AZ, and my documents were a little unorganized)Although I have been making monthly payments, I have not yet been able to retrieve the title. My question for you is, how long can a car sit in a lot before it legally becomes the owner of that lot's property? My car has been sitting in their lot for over 2 months now, and I'm assuming that at this point the car is now legally theirs, even if they don't have the title-is this an accurate assumption? Thank you, I appreciate your time. :)

Answer
Well they might of filed for the title under the abandoned vehicle section of the state laws. That generally happens between 30 to 60 days after the vehicle is towed.

As to making payments, that does kind of make it where the tow company might wait on paperwork. But then again it depends on state laws and company policy. You might talk to then, and see what is happening.

Sorry for not having an answer.
