Towing Issues: Towing, ford pinto, legal recourse

Question
I am in the process of buying a car and the title is not in my name yet. The current owner of the car has allowed me to keep their plate until the title is given to me. The car was parked legally on a street near my mother's home for about an hour and the police had it towed. They state that it is a possible stolen vehicle even though it was not reported. They are now trying to say that the car was blocking an alley but I have the video from the gas station across the street that shows it was not. Do I have any legal recourse because I now have to pay $100 to get it out of the tow yard for no reason?

Answer
Well now, lets see, you are buying a vehicle and have not got the title to it. You are using the "other plates" on it which are registered to the seller and you had it parked on the street in a totally different area when it was towed.

If I got that right, then you would have an issue where it could be looked at as stolen. After all it is not registered in that area and it might look out of place.
Imagine a $250 dollar Ford Pinto parked in Beverly Hills on Rodeo drive, verses a $300,000 Ferrari parked in Detroit's bad areas.

Now as to blocking an alley, I really have no idea as I am not there, can not see where it was parked (video is great, but it only shows one side of the vehicle) and remember that it takes room to turn out of driveways and alleys. So it could not be "PHYSICALLY" blocking the alley, but it could be parked close enough to make it impossible to turn.

Now the $100.00 does not sound bad for towing (to me) as I have heard of these kind of tows under police contracts costing upwards of over 300 dollars.
But I know that money is money and you did not plan this expense.

If your vehicle was issued a parking ticket then you can go fight that in court if you so desire. After all a Judge might agree with you, but then again they might rule against you.
