Towing Issues: Release of personal property in towed vehicle, tow company, tow companies

Question
Does the tow company have to release your personal property to you.? Vehicle is Totaled. Towing company said they do not have to release personal property to registered
owner. Can you tell me the law?

Answer
is this in Texas, California, Alaska or France ???

In some places they are required by law to release certain property without payment.

But in others they can hold on to property in an attempt to get paid for the services they provided.

Classic example I see is the $500.00 car with the $4,000.00 stereo and speakers and the people want the system and not the vehicle. They are thinking that they do not want the junk and let the tow company have the junk. Out of sight out of mind kind of thinking.

You did not tell me what your insurance status is, and that affects this answer. But I am guessing that you do not have full coverage and that means you are responsible for the towing and storage bill.
And again since you did not tell me the state, you might be faced with the possibility of your drivers license being suspended if you do not pick up or pay for the vehicle or make other arrangements with the tow company.

Tow companies even though they get calls from the police are not tax payer supported, they are private businesses which have to meet expenses and make a bit of a profit in order to keep the doors open.
