Towing Issues: Driver Pay, job offer, tow truck

Question
I have a job offer on the table. $350 dollars a week + commission. altho the commission dose not kick in till after 5:30 pm. the $350 covers 50 hrs of work then the rest is commission. It just dosnt seem like i can make a decent pay check that way. can you make a decent living driving a tow truck? can you make $40000 a year?

Answer
Well fast math says that the $350 for 50 hours of work equals $7.00 per hour which is less then minimum wage...

Now commission is very common in the industry and I wish to point out that every area is different in cost of living, so that affects the answer here.

But $40,000 is not totally unreasonable in some locations for light duty drivers who hustle...

I run heavy duty tow truck, and do make good money and its more then the 40K. But I am also in Alabama so that does matter as cost of living is lower here, and I think I have made a living driving tow truck, specially since I have been doing it for 32 years now.
