Towing Issues: towing a camper, nut shell, tow capacity

Question
have 2003 hyundai 4 cylinder santa fe. the book says that it will only tow 1200 lbs. would like to tow a camper that is 3500 lbs. is there anyway to do this?

Answer
well this is out of my area of expertise, but I can tell you that your Santa Fe weights in at 3800 pounds and you want to tow something that weights as much as your tow vehicle...

Tow capacity is determined by several factors including the strength of the axles, braking capacity, engine cooling along with transmission cooling capacity.

And then the hitch is rated for certain weights and so are the bolts which hold it on to the vehicle.

But in a nut shell you will have a vehicle behind you pushing and throwing you around, and you will wind up out of control or worse yet, in a wreck.

I would advise against it
