Towing Issues: towed from a hotel?, tow rates, sign questions

Question
I just read VC22658 because i live in riverside ca. but heres my story. i was visting a friend last night at a hotel when my car got towed. i was there for exactly one hour & when i go outside to see my car gone, i ask security & he says they just left 15 min ago. there we signs posted when you drive in, but the parking lot was full & the cars were blocking the signs, therefore, i did not see that visitors had to register with the front desk & pay an extra $10 just to visit. i took pictures of the signs being blocked by vehicles & how there were no signs posted from where i was parked to the room i was going too. the tow company wants to charge me $300 & it hasnt even been there a full 24hrs yet. i heard in CA that a tow company can not tow more than 10 miles away from original tow point. is this true?

Answer
well reading VC22658 is great and it has 99% of the answers you asked.

As to the lot being full, sorry that happened and your view of the signs was blocked. Should the signs be 4 feet off the ground, or 6 feet, 10 feet, 20 feet or what. Should they be in EACH SPACE or every other space, would every 3rd or 5th space be good?

And if the lot was full, then were did you park??   In an aisle or fire lane?

Reason I ask is that sign questions come up all the time and California specifies size, color, shape and where to be posted. Private parking lots, like the hotel can add other rules, regulations and policies which it appears they did in the form of paying to park and registering at the front desk. And I bet you walked right past the desk on the way to the room you visited...

Now as to the charges, it seems a bit high, but California tow rates are based off the CHP rates for that area. And be it 1 minute or 23 and a half hours, the daily storage rate is the same. And it sounds like you might of tried to get it at night or on a weekend where there is an additional fee for "after hours release" of vehicles, which covers the overtime to get a person in to release the vehicle.

10 miles towing, I have heard that one also, but not sure if that part really passed, as in some areas of the greater LA area, there are no "commercial zoned locations" for a tow company to be located at. I think there are some provisions - loopholes for that, but I am not sure.
Hope this helps.
