Towing Issues: police towed my car, police towed my car, abiding citizen

Question
i bought a car last week. i went to register it and they refused because because i wrote something on the title then cross it so they asked me to get anyone .since it is from different state i went there and they say it will take up to 3 weeks to receive it. the car is insured. so the police saw the car parked outside the house and they towed away.what should i do to re;ease the car.if i keep it until i receive the title i will end up paying alot of money more than what i paid for it. id there any way i can get it out. as i said the car has insurance but not registered yet..

thank you for your time.

Answer
Well once again, key information is missing here.

First of all, lets look back at this a different way. You say you bought the vehicle and took it home where you parked it in the street it sounds like.

Now even if you have it insured, it is not registered to you and it sounds like there are not any current license plates on it, if any plates at all.

Now the police department comes along checking vehicles for being stolen, abandoned or otherwise parked where it should not be.
(making this part up here, but you bought it from a person in Las Vegas, and took it home to San Diego)

They check for stolen and find out it is not close to where it should be, and that it is not registered to anyone in the area.
Now they leave it there, but mark the tires to see if it moves anytime soon. Now since it is not registered (due to the title problem) you want to be a law abiding citizen and you do not drive it but leave it parked.

4 days go by since the police officer marks the tires and you still have not moved it and they come back and see it is not moved, so they deem it abandoned under the state laws (again no info here to give specific answers) and they have it towed for safe keeping as an abandoned vehicle.

Now you do find that its gone and so you start trying to find it and find out that it was towed. And that is where you are at now.

Yes they have the rights under the laws to tow unlicensed vehicles and it sounds like they did it right. Now the tow company is being the bad guy in your eyes since you have to pay for each day it is in their storage yard.

Nothing illegal that I see (again no info given) and it looks like they are following the laws of the state where they are.

Now I was taking a guess about why it was towed, but that is most likely the reason based on your question given and my knowledge of the towing industry.
