Towing Issues: towing in houston tx, tow company, tdlr

Question
I call the towing service where my car was impounded. The lady says her hours are 9am-5pm. Thees a sign outside of her business that states, Open 24 hrs all vehicles will be released and 1 hour after called in. Why can't I get my car at 6pm if it's says 24hrs. She tells me, "because the hours 9-5, but the impound is 24hrs. I'm confused. Can you help me please.

Answer
your bank also offers 24 hour banking, but the inside of the building is not open 24 hours a day / 7 days a week.

Now what you run into is that a tow company office is open like any other business. Plumbers are not in the office 24 hours, but are rather on call after business hours, just like towing companies are. Believe it or not, tow truck drivers have a life also, we do not work 24 hours a day 7 days a week or we would burn out severely.

Yes the tow trucks work all the time, but if you wanted to redeem your vehicle, you can do it at any time, but there are things like "AFTER HOURS RELEASE FEE" or "GATE FEE" which tend to be rather expensive compared to just waiting till the next day to get the vehicle.

Now you mentioned it happened in Houston Texas and they are quite well regulated and controlled in Texas, but the TDLR which has a site online were you can go check rules, regulations, authorized prices or posted prices for the tow company. Yes you can go see if what you paid is what they have listed the prices as.

That site is  http://www.license.state.tx.us/towing/towing.htm

hope this helps a bit
