Towing Issues: Towing Car Fees - pay or not?, collections agency, outrageous fees

Hi! I had my old car towed here in Orlando -FL due to a flat tire.
I am not willing to get it from the towing company as it is not worth what they are asking for.
On the other hand they are asking for half of the fee to give me back my license plate.
Can I abandon my car there?
They said that they would send a collection agency to chase me.
Will I incur in any penalty?

I am guessing it was towed without your consent, which depending on the circumstances is legal in most states. Unfortunately more and more states are allowing towing companies to charge the registered owner of a vehicle that is impounded these outrageous fees. They can and probably will send it to a collections agency. The best bet is to try to get them to accept your title and a small fee to discard the vehicle.
