Towing Issues: excessive towing charges and fees by the city, city of costa mesa ca, costa mesa ca

My car was towed due to expired registration. Okay, that part is my fault, but after spending a day at the DMV going through alot of red tape, I finally got to retrieve my vehicle, the towing charges were excessive ($134 just for the tow of 4 blocks), they tacked on storage fees @ $39/day, but the worst part was the city of Costa Mesa CA tacked on an ADDITIONAL $200!!! How can they justify that????!!! Is this legal??? If my car was towed from two blocks away (next city - Newport Beach) that city charges a $39 city fee!!!  How can I fight this ridiculous charge???

What was the $200 fee for? If it was a fine then they can charge you that for the expired registration. As for the fees charged by the towing company if it was a police impound then the fees should be regulated and you would need to contact the PD to see if the charges are in line with any policy they have, if they have one.
