Towing Issues: Parking on private road, portland resident, tow company

Question
Hello Richard,
I live in Portland Oregon and own a duplex on a private road. I am finding that the new next door neighbor always has friends parking on my property. I have politely asked several times for him to inform his guests not to park on my property, but they keep parking in front of my house. I am thinking of getting a towing company to post signs and patrol. I am not sure if I am in the right or not? It is my property, but I do have an egress access easement for the road. Does this allow parking on my property?
Regards,
Gary

Answer
Gary, this question brings up a whole lot of issues which I do not have all the answers for, but can suggest a few things.

First of all the easements and property lines are issues and would have to really be looked at and established - marked.

Then you will have to provide a formal style warning to the neighbor so that warning is served.

You should be able to then work with a tow company (I know of 2 good ones out there in Portland {former Portland resident here}) and get some signs.

Patrolling the property is good but also it creates problems, and I know that both Portland and the State of Oregon are trying to cut out Patrol towing.

You can also check with the City and find out your rights and what is legal to do, as they have a towing coordination officer who handles issues like this.

I would start with the property line issue and then go to the city and see what you can do first. After all when towing starts it generally creates problems with neighbors and you do have to live there.  I have seen and heard of things getting out of hand and very nitpicking.

Good luck.
