Towing Issues: Police impoundment,Towing fees, dmv ca, gov pubs

I was arrested at 9:00AM and my truck was towed (15 miles) for safe storage (full of my tools and materials for a couple of job's# and I was released 11:30AM#2.5 hrs#.I Called the towing agency at 12:00PM #3 hours since being contained# to find out that the amount to recover the vehicle was $975.00,1 day storage $75.00 and $50.00 gate fee #Saturday). Is this fair and if it is who regulates California tow companies?

My first thought is there must be more to the story. The amount due and limited time of storage seems excessive for a simple driver's arrest. My suggestion without any further speculation is contacting the police department that requested the tow for any documented towing rates.
