Towing Issues: denied AAA then impounded, aaa rates, tow company

Question
I needed a service call from AAA for breaking a snow cable on my car and it was denied. AAA was told they could not send a dispatch for the vehicle and then the CHP sent one. The tow company used to impound my car was AAA certified and could have hauled it for me @ my AAA rates but instead they want me to pay $1,200 to get the car back. What kind of racket is this? Same tow company, different order. This seems criminal to me. I could have removed it myself because I got into town and bought new cables. I tried to get a tow and it was denied and now thy want $1,200!! Any help would be appreciated. I have a lot more info if u need it. There was 20 or more cars stuck and I spent 5 hours helping them out as well as them helping me. We never had any help from the agencies I pay taxes for and possibly could have frozen to death if I stayed out there in the snow. What was I supposed to do? I tried everything I could and they didn't want to allow me to remove the vehicle.

Answer
In many situations such as extreme inclement weather, which may be the case, AAA may have trouble dispatching vendors for service especially accidents and recoveries. If the police felt it necessary to remove the vehicle, it will get towed. If AAA was unable to assist then the police will request for an authorized police tow company. The tow company may be an authorized AAA vendor but since AAA did not authorize or request the service the tow company isn't required to honor their rates, especially in extreme conditions. I assume car insurance isn't an option for their service? If that's the case my suggestion is paying and retrieving the vehicle to avoid additional fees. Should paying the fees be a problem then contact the manager or the owner of the tow company and maybe a solution can be found. Good luck
