Answer
I'm assuming you live in a apartment complex? If that's the case review your lease about the terms and conditions with tenant's vehicles and parking. Most apartment complex's express or imply that the tenant's vehicle must be currently registered along with other rules and regulations. Should the lease mention the requirement of current registration of vehicles then there's the first form of written notification. As for the towing company you mentioned the tow sticker on the vehicle before it was towed. This is a warning the vehicle is going to be towed and action should have been made then to remove the vehicle from the property until the parking violation could be resolved. Again, this is another form of notification. What must be known here is the apartment complex contracted the tow company to remove the vehicle. The tow company provided a service for the apartment complex even though it wasn't a consent from you. These tows are called "non consent" towing which is legal with a contract from the apartment complex. Most tow companies do have limited hours of operation on releasing vehicles on the weekends or have after hours release fee on weekends but that option should or been made available. Here's a link for towing laws in your state http://www.rules.utah.gov/publicat/code/r909/r909-019.htm also check with http://www.utahprotow.com/laws.html as they can be helpful about non consent towing in your state. Hope some of this information helps or gives some insight on why your vehicle was towed
