Towing Issues: What if you never pick up your car from tow yard?, tow yard, tow company

Question
Hi, my car was parked on the street, and the tags were expired. It was towed and I did not have money to get it out so i left it in the tow yard. I decided it wasnt worth paying to get it back. It has been about 2 years now and I realise that the tow company has billed me 2,633.00. I moved out of state so i never received the notices, but i do show it on my credit report now. The car was in good condition and if i have to pay 2,633.00 would i ever see the car again? Do they sell it? I still have the title.

Answer
It depends on what state you are in. Many states actually let towing companies collect on unpaid towing and storage bills. Some states you just get whatever the auction brings. Normally a towing company files for an abandoned vehicle title and are required to send registered letters to the last known owner and any lien holder listed on the title. The vehicle has more than likely already been sold.
