Towing Issues: towing a 2001 Land Rover Discovery II, land rover discovery, land rover discovery ii

Question
I have a 2001 Land Rover Discovery II that I want to pull behind my Sea Breeze motorcoach. I purchased a towbar and have bolted the quick-release attachments to the frame of the SUV.

My question is if I place both the transmission and 4WD in neutral, does this completely disengage the transmission to avoid damage?

Secondly, do I need any type of anti-sway bar for a towed vehicle with 4 wheels on the ground?

I was told to leave the ignition key on only to the point that the steering wheel remained unlocked and that the front wheels would track naturally behind the Motorcoach. Is this true and do I need to worry about the front tires possibly taking an independent direction or suddenly vibrating wildly back and forth over the road? What is the customary practice for towing this kind of SUV?

thanks

Answer
I do not specialize in tow behind or what they refer to as "Dinghy" towing. There are numerous web sites that can direct you and actually have a list of vehicle and how to tow them. One of these is http://www.newrver.com/dinghytow.shtml  and another one is http://www.campingworld.com/tLibrary/output.cfm?ID=749773 Hope that will help you.
