Towing Issues: car impounded while my father driving with suspeded license, dmv web, california dmv

Question
I live in CA and my car was impounded due to my father driving with a suspended license unbeknownst to me. Is there a way I can get my car out earlier than 30-days under these circumstances?

Answer
Most likely you will have a huge battle with this issue as they will claim that "you are supposed to know and allow only LICENSED DRIVERS to drive your vehicle"

It is your duty to be aware of the potential risk you are taking by loaning out the vehicle. That is most likely what will be said.

Now you can appeal the 30 day issue and all that but keep in mind that after a certain amount of time, the vehicle will be sold at auction by the tow company and you will still be responsible for towing and storage fees.

I would get ahold of the police department who impounded the vehicle and placed the 30 day hold on it, and see what the procedures are to get it lifted.

Also talk with California DMV and see what you have to do also.

AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, keep in touch with the tow company and keep great records of all discussions and letters with every party involved.

I wish I knew the exact procedures but they also vary between cities and such.

But you can search the California DMV web site online and read about this kind of issue.

Also I lost the link but CHP has a section on "my car was towed" or something like that which might help
