Towing Issues: towing, personal belongings, storage fees

Question
I was pulled over a week ago and my car was towed away.. Can a tow company hold your personal belongings hostage until you pay the bill?

Answer
it depends on the state laws where you are at, and since you did not say the state it happened in I can not provide specific information.

GENERALLY the tow company holds the vehicle and the contents of the vehicle till the towing and storage fees are paid. Now in some states you can get certain limited things out of the vehicle such as house and work keys, medicines, school books, banking and other important papers, car seats and stuff.
NOTHING ATTACHED to the vehicle such as stereos and speakers can be removed.

Hope this helps, if not then ask with more information or do a search in your state on towing laws and go from there.  That or just ask the police if there is a law or policy.
