Towing Issues: is it legal?, tow company, police request

2005 Truck was towed on Nov 21,2008 by police request. Truck was sold to my Father and title was switched DEC 3,2008 Tow company Auction truck on DEC 21,2008 WITHOUT any notice to my self or father is this legal? what should i do?

That important information is lacking and makes it hard to really answer this question
But to me this sounds a bit strange, with the sale after the towing.

Generally the last registered owner is notified as per DMV records as per the date of tow or maybe a week afterwards...
DMV has to have the information as to who owns the vehicle and that is where the tow company sends the notifications to.

I know there is more to the story here, and my crystal ball is flooded due to the rains lately...So I really can not help with specific information
