Towing Issues: Towed for no reason??, apartment manager, 5am

Question
I was out on a Friday night and needed a place to park my truck. I went and asked the people living at their apartments if I could park in their apartment spot, it was empty and their neighbors said they never use them. Well by morning my truck was towed and I had to go pay $150 to get it back, when it was towed at 5AM, and I went to the tow place at 7AM. Based on that, I don't know why my truck was towed, I had permission to park. I think these guys were out strolling around and just towed me because they saw I had a campus permit on my truck, which means I don't live there. Anything I can do against this? I feel like this is almost robbery, but what can you do right? They can legally take and hold your vehicle and all you can do is pay as far as I know- If I'm wrong I need to know what I can do to amend this situation.

Answer
Since I don't know the city, county or state I can't speak on the legality of the situation. In general, what was charged sounds about right for a private property tow. Also, is the apartment complex permit patrolled? If so the violating vehicle would be towed regardless of the neighbors permission because you did not obtain the proper parking permit. As for your comment on the guys strolling around that is what they do, they enforce parking procedures. Contact the apartment manager if you feel the towing procedures where not followed correctly. Hopefully this information may give some insight, good luck.
