Towing Issues: Police Impound, fault the police, dark clothes

Question
Hi there,My husband was involved in an accident while in the left hand turning lane there were two pedestrians standing in the road.It was dark & both were wearing dark clothes, when he saw them he honked ,pushed on his brakes and hit one of them.He then called 911 to report the accident and went over to the woman to take her pulse,Thank God she was alive & not hurt badly. The officer that responded to the call first asked my husband to explain truthfully what all he could remember prior to the accident. He did, they then had his truck towed to police impound, they did not give him a citation, when he asked if he could get his belongings they said no and when he asked why they were towing it they said they were holding it for police evidence. This was on a wednesday evening, we did not get the truck back untill tuesday morning. Can you explain to me what evidence they would have held it for and why it took so long to find such evidence? Thanks Vicky

Answer
Basically the police held the vehicle in case the pedestrian died and is standard police procedure. Because it was a vehicle vs. person (regardless who was at fault) the police investigation is taken very seriously especially if she died and the victim's family tried to file a manslaughter suit. In some situations internal injuries are not immediate and complications can come several days later. I'm sure the police conducted a follow up condition on that person before the vehicle was released. Thank goodness it wasn't that severe!
