Towing Issues: Towing, tow truck driver, insurance fraud

Question
With the weather the way it has been here in Michigan, my husband got stuck on a main road. My husband called me to ask me to call a tow truck to get him out (his phone was almost dead). I did. He waited 40 minutes and still no tow truck. Some one with a 4x4 came by and asked if he needed a tow out, he said yes. The tow company called me, looking for him, and I told them he must of got out some how. The tow truck driver was nasty and told me to "have your husband call me and let me know how he was going to get paid". My husband arrived home and called after explaining his phone died after he hung up with me. My husband offered him $25 for his time (only 10 miles between the company and where he was stuck). My husband apologized but the tow truck driver stated that $40.00 would make his night and that he wanted our insurance information so he could bill them or he would sue us, needless to say my husband told hm no and to have a nice night and hung up since he was getting more nasty with my husband demanding our insurance info.  Can he sue us for services not rendered? We did offer him money and he didn't want it he wanted our insurance information but I'm not going to give him my insurance information and get in trouble for insurance fraud! Should we just ignore this guy? or can he do anything about it? All he has is our phone number and nothing else. Our address is not listed anywhere just our phone number.

Answer
Rhonda,

I can't imagine this guy owns the company. So he probably gets paid commission and wants something for his time. His attitude makes him undeserving, don't you think? I think it was very nice of your husband to offer him anything at all. What I think is bad is that this type of guy is why we as towers get a bad name.

I don't believe you have anything more to worry about
